Winner of a New Apple Award for literary fiction in 2015 and a Shelf Unbound Notable Book of 2014, the first of a seven-part serial tells the story of a celebrity rock star writing his autobiography after his wife is murdered by a bullet meant for him.
Featured twice as a winner in the WILDsound Festival Review (http://alifesingular.com/2016/02/two-more-performance-readings-from-the-wildsound-festival/), “A Life Singular” is a contemporary fiction serial dealing with today’s complex social issues through the universal themes of love and our endless fascination for celebrity.
When Lynn is gunned down in the lobby of a Sydney hotel, twenty years of success and happiness come crashing down for Jeff, his two teenaged children and their millions of fans all over the world. The reader has a ring-side seat beside the charismatic superstar at the murder trial and travels in style while the couple’s eagerly-awaited autobiography takes shape.
Against a backdrop of community outrage at the senseless act of violence perpetrated against Australia’s most revered celebrities, the widower and his children battle with their grief and use the wealth of happy memories to paint a path to a future without their missing loved one.
One Amazon 5* review says: “A Wonderful Series Begins Here! There’s a strong romantic element at the beginning of this story that really sets the stage nicely for the reader to understand the two characters ( Jeff and his wife Lynn). When there is a tragic turn to their 20 year anniversary, the author smoothly takes us into the mystery of what happened and also the matter of how one person moves on after a tragic loss. The characters are well created and there is plenty of details to give this story the layers needed to keep one reading. The author has the ability to move the reader through the emotions being experienced – from love to anguish to feelings raked raw – the reader has his finger on the pulse of what is going on (said and unsaid) with each character. This book definitely hooked me on wanting to know what would happen next and I’ll say now – I liked the second and third book too.”
Fasten your seatbelt for the rollercoaster of life! Sales proceeds go to two Australian charities assisting disadvantaged young people with their education: The Smith Family and EdConnect Australia.

Lorraine Pestell was born in London and has had a successful career as an Information Technology professional in the UK, US, Europe, Singapore, and more recently Australia. She and her 9-year-old rescued Belgian Shepherd currently reside in Melbourne, Victoria.
Although still working full-time, Lorraine is a passionate volunteer for several organisations, finding that volunteering her time and energy to those less fortunate an effective antidote to life-long depression and the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The idea for “A Life Singular” originated when Lorraine was 14, and the story continued to develop in fits and starts since then, whenever time and life events permitted. Since 2008, when a new element of the plot triggered a sudden urge to complete the books, the story has evolved into seven separate novels.
Lorraine has two main goals for her writing: first, to inspire fellow sufferers of mental illness to rise above their symptoms and make a success of their lives; and second, to encourage non-sufferers to tolerate, support and even love those afflicted in their quest to live a “normal” life.
